Here we are almost a week later!

A couple shots of the twins – they are getting bigger by the day.

Their favorite thing to do is spring-sproing in the air like little jumping beans – testing out their little legs.

I only give them short times in the yard, as sadly Willie is a terrible father. He bashes them with his horns, as he is insanely jealous.  So, I will have to make a separate meadow for Willie, until he calms down. Right now he is after Rosie, as – well you know – his wife has been pregnant for 3 months – waddya want?

Chile’ Pepper Billie decided he had enough of the bottle and did go to Rosie’s teat by the second day. Hooray! It was soooo much easier than bottle feeding every 4 hours, and when he did that, he got a little pot belly, just like his brother Nicholas.

Spring time is here – and you can always tell when the sheep need to be shorn – Willie I shaved down on Monday, Rosie got shaved on Wednesday. It took me an hour for each sheep. They are used to the electric shear, which are very noisy, and I do not tether them while I clip them. They will stand there, and let me work on them – food helps of course! Their wool was over 8 inches thick, since I sheared them in the beginning of November. As you can see, Willie has become a very big boy – he has filled out even after his illness and near death experience.

Enjoy the pics!

A few more pics as we progress through 1 WEEK of their life.

They got a new house built – well actually – it was for Willie – as he keeps harassing Rosie and the boys – but MOMMA seems to like it too!

The twins are testing out their running legs, however their backend doesn’t match up with their front end, and they eventually end up running sideways across the hillside – there is a few little boing-springs added in – Rosie feels good and will spring-sproing in the air with them. It looks like my entire meadow is full of Mexican jumping beans!

Both sheep were sheared, I saw the weather forecast, thank goodness I sheared them when I did, as it was over 80 degrees. I actually had to wet down the babies, as they were panting so hard. Today, it is cold and 50 degrees.

Enjoy!

Oxoxoxo to all.

Sweet Pea Farm

April 12, 2008

Oh boy!

It’s definitely spring here at Sweet Pea Farm – I got the surprise of my life this morning. I have been meaning to try and send out an update, well now is a good excuse!

I went outside this am to feed my babies, and as I was walking towards the Rubbermaid shed you all so nicely helped put up for me – I was greeted by a SHRILL BAAAAAAAA

in a tiny, tiny little voice. I looked through the fence and saw, standing next to Rosie, (who JUST turned 1 year last month on the 9th) – a baby lamb. I dropped the bucket of food I was carrying I was so shocked! I didn’t even know she was pregnant – as their wool is over 8 inches thick, and it is IMPOSSIBLE to see their bellies.

I ran to the shed and went inside. Little Chile’ Pepper Billie, as he is so fondly named had just been born, was still wet, and needed to be rubbed down. I ran back inside and got towels.

Rosie was lying in the shed, Willie was standing by – looking confused. –(sound familiar?) heh – heh – had to throw that in guys – don’t take offense!

I started rubbing down Chile’ Pepper Billie, only to see Rosie straining. I looked at her and said “ Oh Boy – how many do you have in there girl?” So, looking at her rear end – I saw  tiny hooves and a nose start to appear, so I helped pull the second little guy out!  Broke his sack, cleaned his little nose, and with the miracle of life, watched him take his first little breaths of air. I called Ashby and my friend Billy to come and help, as I realized there was a lot to do, IMMEDIATELY with twins, and I WAS SO UNPREPARED! I needed extra hands!

Kids? Crap! I am not ready for kids, let alone twins!

Oh well, they are fabulous, and I hope you enjoy the pictures. Chile’ Pepper Billie, is a little difficult, a little frail, and so far will only take a bottle as you can see by the photos. Nicholas Nathaniel, named in honor of Ashby’s son and my Godchild, has the black face, and is quite feisty. They are a blessing in my life, and the new additions to Sweet Pea Farm! 2 little angels – please come and see them – if these pictures don’t warm your heart, nothing will.

There are pictures from the very moment they are born, to only a few hours old.

Off to feed now every 4 hours – the exhausting job of a Grandma……………love it!

February 26, 2008

Here we are!  It’s a new year!

We made it through a couple months with nothing but GOOD things happening – people laugh when I say this – I let out a sigh of relief!

As usual – things are on a fast pace at Sweet Pea Farm. It has been a long 3 months since the fire on December 18th, 2007 though.

The insurance company wanted to send out an investigative crew – I choose to call them their C.S.I. team – to look into, dig around, and dissect the remnants of the charred sheep’s water heater – which was the suspected culprit of the fire. It took a good 6 weeks for all the assorted people to come out, gather around and do their thing. I was told “NOT TO TOUCH OR MOVE A THING” until they had gotten their evidence for the possible law suit against the manufacturer of the heater.

I snapped shots of the crew – and as usual – Willie charmed many of the investigators, firemen, and insurance reps alike!

The bird room was a big hit too – all involved had to come inside and take a look at the walk in aviary and to see all the different kinds of birds.

I managed to sell the motorcycle (the one that didn’t burn) and the Trooper. So, the driveway is a little less cluttered. That leaves the MINI still to go.

I finally got Ines’ “crunchy red car” flat bedded away 1 week ago. Man, did that take a lot of patience, and 92 days. The lucky Ford dealership in Danbury got this one back – (heh heh) gee- “A little problem with the paint” well – see – it’s a leased vehicle – so………………..it goes back to a dealership……..right?  They weren’t too happy about getting the car. I didn’t care, and I was thrilled.

We had 10 inches of snow last week too, 1 day after you see the little crunchy red car being towed away. I bought a snow blower so I am not dependant on a plow guy anymore.

Wow.

Life is now complete.

I have a HUMMER, and a snow blower. What else could a girl want? It blows snow 30 feet away. Talk about liberation, talk about power, talk about…………ok, ok, I’m getting a little carried away, but really, try it sometime, you’ll see! (it’s quite interesting to hold the clutch on the blower and snap the camera shot with my other arm while walking)

Willie and Rosie are still growing, and Willie – wow – look at the current photo of him. He is not a teenie bopper anymore, he is a MAN. (well, a sheep man) Look at his HORNS! They seem to be growing daily – I don’t notice unless I look at photos! Both sheep have filled out in all ways –  facial features, bellies, and coats.  It has been 4 degrees here, and they just looooollllie around in the snow and ice – they actually have ice on their backs, and don’t care one bit. They actually lie on the snow, like it’s a big blanket. As you can see, Rosie has snow on here nose. It doesn’t melt; it just stays there, as she has so much insulation. Their shed is holding up great, and they use it every single time it rains.

It will officially be their BIRTHDAYS next week! They will be a YEAR old. Willie was born on March 9, 2007, and Rosie was born on March 7, 2007.

I am so happy I was able to rescue these sheep, save their lives, and add them to my life. They continue to bring joy to many, including myself on a daily basis.

They HATE the rain. Actually, I would too if I had to wear 4 wool sweaters, and stand in the rain. When it is raining, they both will stand in the doorway of the shed, and baaaaa at me. Asking me to make it stop raining. Incessantly. If they see me in the house, they will baa at me until I open the window on that side of the house and tell them “I hear you; I can’t do anything about the rain”. It is quite comical, and I have to turn up the TV so I don’t hear them baaaing their discontent at me.

Please enjoy the photos; I am battling it out with the insurance company who wants to cheap out their payment to me. Next photos will be demolition of the garage, and reconstruction of the new garage going up!

We have close to 100 people on the email list now for Sweet Pea Farm, how wonderful! Keep it up – if you know someone who you think would like the farm news, send me an email, I will add them to the list.

It will be spring in 4 weeks – let’s get ready!
