Sweet Pea Farm

April 12, 2008

Oh boy!

It’s definitely spring here at Sweet Pea Farm – I got the surprise of my life this morning. I have been meaning to try and send out an update, well now is a good excuse!

I went outside this am to feed my babies, and as I was walking towards the Rubbermaid shed you all so nicely helped put up for me – I was greeted by a SHRILL BAAAAAAAA

in a tiny, tiny little voice. I looked through the fence and saw, standing next to Rosie, (who JUST turned 1 year last month on the 9th) – a baby lamb. I dropped the bucket of food I was carrying I was so shocked! I didn’t even know she was pregnant – as their wool is over 8 inches thick, and it is IMPOSSIBLE to see their bellies.

I ran to the shed and went inside. Little Chile’ Pepper Billie, as he is so fondly named had just been born, was still wet, and needed to be rubbed down. I ran back inside and got towels.

Rosie was lying in the shed, Willie was standing by – looking confused. –(sound familiar?) heh – heh – had to throw that in guys – don’t take offense!

I started rubbing down Chile’ Pepper Billie, only to see Rosie straining. I looked at her and said “ Oh Boy – how many do you have in there girl?” So, looking at her rear end – I saw  tiny hooves and a nose start to appear, so I helped pull the second little guy out!  Broke his sack, cleaned his little nose, and with the miracle of life, watched him take his first little breaths of air. I called Ashby and my friend Billy to come and help, as I realized there was a lot to do, IMMEDIATELY with twins, and I WAS SO UNPREPARED! I needed extra hands!

Kids? Crap! I am not ready for kids, let alone twins!

Oh well, they are fabulous, and I hope you enjoy the pictures. Chile’ Pepper Billie, is a little difficult, a little frail, and so far will only take a bottle as you can see by the photos. Nicholas Nathaniel, named in honor of Ashby’s son and my Godchild, has the black face, and is quite feisty. They are a blessing in my life, and the new additions to Sweet Pea Farm! 2 little angels – please come and see them – if these pictures don’t warm your heart, nothing will.

There are pictures from the very moment they are born, to only a few hours old.

Off to feed now every 4 hours – the exhausting job of a Grandma……………love it!
